is being held in Dubai over money issues, according to ‘Money’s former protégé,  Recently, ‘Tank’, who fought for Mayweather-owned boxing promotion for most of his career, has been engaged in a verbal war with the 50-0 boxer. The two men have been taking shots at each other and even making threats of physical violence and now a surprise name has made his way into this saga.

During their ongoing feud, “Tank” even threatened “knock Floyd out” as tensions between the two continue to simmer. The latest chapter of their ongoing beef saw verbose UFC legend Chael Sonnen offer his help in ‘rescuing’ Floyd Mayweather from the Gulf nation.

Chael Sonnen offers his services to ‘free’ Floyd Mayweather

Gervonta Davis left the Mayweather Promotions two years ago after accusing the promotion of ‘mismanaging’ his career. While the beef between them seemed to have died down, a recent video by Mayweather Jr. reignited it. Without naming anyone, the undefeated fighter took shots at boxers, presenting himself as the point of reference to these fighters whom he accused of not working hard enough, as he did as a young man, and concentrating more on their appearances.

‘Tank’ took this as a shot at himself and came out with a fiery response. The boxer posted his former mentor’s rant on his Instagram and gave his thoughts on the topic, claiming that the GOAT contender was a “hater” and was being held against his will in Dubai for not fulfilling his obligations despite getting paid for it.

However, the attacks didn’t stop there as the WBA lightweight champion took to X (formerly Twitter) and reiterated his attack. “They got Floyd a** for real..tell him I’ll send him a wire..LET MY F***ING FAMILY GO 🗣️,” he posted. This led to UFC commentator and Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s critic, Chael Sonnen, jumping in to ask, tongue in cheek, “How can I help?”

This response, of course, is perfectly in line with Sonnen’s sardonic style of commentary and fans should not expect ‘Uncle Chael’ to mount a Mission Impossible-style rescue mission to free Floyd from his alleged captivity. ‘The Bad Guy’ has taken shots at ‘Money’ over financial matters several times in the past.

One of those instances was in 2018, when Sonnen said, “Floyd’s broke. You’ve got to understand, the only thing more embellished than Floyd Mayweather’s pay-per-view numbers is Floyd Mayweather’s net worth, and he made a lot of money, but remember this: It does not matter what you made, it matters what you kept, and he is a dumb-dumb!… “Look, he’s just not a very bright guy. He’s surrounded with even less bright guys.”

As recently as December 2023, Sonnen took another shot at Mayweather flaunting his wealth. The boxing legend had reportedly shut down a mall at night to get his shopping done. Rumors were he splashed $15M on Christmas shopping. Sonnen But things may not be so silly this time around if Davis is right. It should be noted that while Davis has claimed repeatedly that Mayweather is not being allowed to leave Dubai freely, there is no evidence for it except for his and rapper 50 Cent’s claims, the latter of whom has also offered to help Mayweather.

50 Cent willing to bail Mayweather out despite beef

50 Cent’s support and loyalty to Mayweather was very visible during the former’s fight against Conor McGregor in 2017. The rapper beefed with the former UFC double-champion even . But somewhere down the line, the two friends started having issues, allegedly over Floyd owing the singer money.

But now,  if that is what it would take to get Mayweather out of his current predicament. Responding to some of Gervonta Davis’ social media posts on the subject, 50 Cent wrote, “Oh nah, this sh*t is real. @gervontaa would not say no sh*t like that if it wasn’t official. Me and Champ be beefing, but he my brother. I got some money if he need it!

This situation has garnered much attention over the last few days but the specifics remain unclear. With Davis and 50 Cent both offering to step in to help, do you think Floyd is actually in trouble? What do you make of Sonnen’s response? Let us know in the comments.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has continued to show  as the sports star made another visit to the country amid the nation’s Mayweather Jr. made the trek abroad earlier this week, which included a meeting with members of Israel’s Defense Forces (IDF) and emergency services. The 47-year-old also prayed at the Western Wall, a religious site located in the Old City of Jerusalem during his visit, which attracted a throng of fans and observers who posed for photos with the former boxing champ.

His latest trip to the war-stricken country comes mere months after Mayweather Jr. received the “Champion of Israel” Award for his vocal and philanthropic support of Israel. The undefeated pugilist was bestowed the honor in December 2023, during a ceremony held in Miami that was thrown by Magen David Adom, Israel’s national emergency service.

The fundraising event garnered upwards of a reported $4 million towards Israelian relief efforts.

Floyd Mayweather attends a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium on January 07, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In October 2023, Mayweather Jr. expressed his solidarity with Israel while an Islamist political and military movement responsible for air and ground attacks on Israel. “I stand with Israel against the Hamas terrorists,” he wrote in a post on social media at the time.

“Hamas do not represent the people of Palestine but are a terrorist group that are attacking innocent lives!” he added, distancing himself from attributing the actions of Hamas to the Middle Eastern nation as a whole. “I stand for all humans and wish for the safe return of all Americans and Israelis and any human that were kidnapped as hostages during these horrific war crimes.”

Mayweather Jr. continued to express his thoughts, urging the public to focus on humanity in a time of dvision. “This is not a time for politics. This is a time for safety first and foremost,” he added. “God Bless America, God Bless Israel, God Bless Human Kind! I stand with Israel and Jews all around the world. I condemn antisemitism at all cost, I stand for Peace, I stand for Human Rights! Terrorism Is Never The Answer!”

In addition to backing Israel through his words, Mayweather has put his money where his mouth is, as the fiscal-minded sports star’s private jet reportedly transported 5,000 pounds of supplies to the nation that same month.

PARIS – One of the most decorated members of the Great Britain Olympic delegation has withdrawn from the 2024 Paris Olympics Equestrian athlete , a three-time Olympic gold medalist in dressage, announced the news Tuesday after a video she said was from four years ago surfaced   The International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) investigation resulted in a six-month suspension, the body announced.

The FEI said it received a video Tuesday “depicting Ms. Dujardin engaging in conduct contrary to the principles of horse welfare.” A lawyer representing an unidentified complainant sent the video to the FEI.

“The footage was allegedly taken several years ago during a training session conducted by Ms. Dujardin at a private stable,” the FEI said in a statement.

Dujardin technically withdrew before the FEI could impose its penalty.

In her statement, Dujardin said the incident “does not reflect how I train my horses or coach my pupils, however there is no excuse. I a

FLOYD MAYWEATHER crafted the most iconic unbeaten boxing record of all time by training in sweltering heat in the middle of the night.

The American’s gym is just two short miles from the Sin City strip where he collected the majority of his belts and millions in the ring.

But the real work was done inside the Mayweather Boxing Club, where the 50-0 legend whipped himself into sensational shape.

He did so by training at all hours of the night, often as late as 3 am, and with the thermostat cranked up to a boiling 83 degrees (28 C).

The Sun took a trip to the iconic gym and experienced firsthand just how hot the boxing club was.

And according to Mayweather’s uncle Jeff, his nephew’s influence is so great that up-and-comers force themselves to train in the heat like their hero once did.

“Well, that’s because that’s what Floyd used to do and everyone that comes to the gym wants to pattern themselves after Floyd. So they let the gym just heat up and I hate it!” Jeff told us.

Mayweather, who officially retired in 2017 after beating UFC superstar Conor McGregor, prided himself on doing things his own way.

And to gain a psychological edge he would train in the middle of the night while his opponents slept.

So if you were on his training team it meant being on call at all times.

“He trains some crazy times,” former world champion Badou Jack, 40, said.

“I’m not sparring with him but we’d get a call in the middle of the night and he’ll say ‘Get to the gym, we’re working out.'”

Not even a night out on the Vegas town would get in the way of his sparring sessions.

“Everything he does is different, he does his own thing,” 23-8 Denis Douglin, 35, remembers.

“Floyd would go out to the club, finish at three o’clock in the morning and then go and train.

“That was regular. It sounds crazy to the world but the man does what he wants, but he stays focused. He’s just on a whole different level.”

Mayweather is so impromptu he would often challenge his sparring partners to box until one of them gave up.

“Floyd said to me, ‘We’re going to turn the bell off and spar till somebody quits. I’m gonna make you quit,’ Douglin recalls.

“I said to him, ‘Floyd, if you turn that bell off we’re going to spar for the rest of the day, because I’m not quitting.’

“We sparred about 20-30 minutes straight, but we had to stop because Devin Haney was sparring after us.

“If it wasn’t for that we weren’t going to stop – we’d probably still be sparring now.”

“We’re boxing, going back and forth, we did three or four rounds straight, but Floyd’s the type of guy to try and break you,” Daquan Mays, who is 5-1, added.

“He’s looking me in the eyes the whole time, and I’m like this s*** is fun as hell.

“We’re in like the third round and he’s like, ‘I ain’t tired, I’ll keep going, I don’t give a f***.

“I was like, well I don’t give a f*** either. So he said, ‘Get the clock off, get the clock off, we going until you’re tired, until you’re done boxing’.

“Me myself, I didn’t care, I wanted to see where I was at. We did 16 minutes, he gave me props afterwards and that was that.”

Mayweather’s gym is full of his favorite memorabilia with fight posters – all in chronological order – draping from the ceiling.

There is also a poster of the five-division champ with the quote, “A true champion can adapt to anything.”

On the entrance door of the gym are also strict instructions prohibiting phones in the gym whenever Mayweather was training.

Failure to do so would see you kicked out of the gym and banned from coming back.

But Mayweather is not often seen around the gym these days.

He continues to box in exhibitions since hanging the gloves up, facing stars of the social media, MMA, and boxing world.

His last was against the grandson of notorious mob boss John Gotti, which ended in a disqualification win last June after a brawl broke out in the ring.

Mayweather continues to tease more money-spinning spectacle bouts, meaning there are rare cameos in the gym here and there.

US boxing legend Floyd Mayweather announces his support for Israel and sends aid to the country on his private jet.

“I stand with Israel against the Hamas terrorists. Hamas do not represent the people of Palestine but are a terrorist group that are attacking innocent lives! I stand for all humans and wish for the safe return of all Americans and Israelis and any human that were kidnapped as hostages during these horrific war crimes,” Mayweather says in an Instagram post along with a picture of himself in Jerusalem.

“I stand with Israel and Jews all around the world. I condemn antisemitism at all cost. I stand for Peace. I stand for Human Rights! Terrorism Is Never The Answer,” a second post says with a fist in the colors of the Israeli flag.

Media reports say Mayweather is sending a shipment of aid to Israel on his private jet.

TMZ says the shipment consists of everything from “food and water to bulletproof vests for the IDF  and civilians.”

Mike Tyson is regarded as ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet,’ but that wasn’t enough to scare Floyd Mayweather

Jack Kenmare

Mike Tyson has never been one to hold back when speaking about Floyd Mayweather. In fact, that a prime version of himself would kick Mayweather’s “a**e” in a street fight.

The 54-year-old  the undefeated boxer for believing he’s better than the great Muhammed Ali ever was.

“He’s very delusional,” said. “Listen, if he was anywhere near that realm of great as Muhammad Ali, he’d be able to take his kids to school by himself.

“OK, he can’t take his kids to school by himself, and he’s talking about he’s great? Greatness is not guarding yourself from the people. ‘It’s being accepted by the people. He can’t take his kids alone to school by himself.

“He’s a little scared man. He’s a very small, scared man.”

Tyson and Mayweather’s well documented feud has often produced entertaining snippets and for many, a moment in 2015 sticks out as one of the best.

It all went down when the pair bumped into each other at a WBC convention at the Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Mayweather, who was the WBC welterweight and junior middleweight champion at the time, shook hands with those on stage when ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ entered the room.

Tyson soon approached ‘Money’ and pretended to throw one of those famous right hands before walking away with a smirk on his face.

To his credit, Mayweather didn’t even flinch. He soon embraced the former heavyweight champion of the world while wearing a huge smile on his face.

Of course, this isn’t the only eyebrow raising incident involving Tyson and Mayweather in years gone by.

When ‘Iron Mike’ was asked about the previously mentioned street fight with ‘Pretty Boy’ in his prime, he told GQ: “[I would] kick Floyd’s a**e… there wouldn’t even be no match.”

The former undisputed heavyweight champ put his rivalry to one side with Mayweather when he suggested that he’d lose in a boxing fight if he were the same size as him.

He admitted: “[If] I was his size in the ring, he would outpoint me.”

Mayweather, who boasts an unbeaten record of 50-0, once claimed that he was the best boxer in history and rated himself higher than the likes of Muhammad Ali and Tyson.

is widely considered one of the greatest boxers of all time and has the resume to back that claim up, as the Michigan native has worked tirelessly to perfect his craft and keep his perfect record of 50-0 unblemished throughout his career. Though he is nowadays just for the money, against opponents with name value as opposed to building a legacy of career boxers, what he has accomplished over the past few decades may never be seen again.

Floyd Mayweather 10 Best Wins Ranked FOR HIM AND IS FRIEND

Every fight fan remembers the biggest moments of their favourite fighter’s career. While Mayweather Jr has a long list of wins under his belt, there are a few that stand out above the rest. Here are the 10 best wins of Floyd “Money” Mayweather’s career – ranked.

Besides having an all-time series of fights against , Mexican great  battled against some of the best boxers of his generation, including Mayweather Jr. Their meeting came right in the middle of “Money” Mayweather Jr’s obliteration of all challengers. Coming off of an extended hiatus, Mayweather Jr’s return against a dangerous opponent sparked large viewership numbers. Marquez had limited success against his adversary. He tried to stick to his game plan, but after frustration set in, the Mexican fighter tried the different approach of throwing caution to the wind. This played beautifully into Mayweather Jr’s counter-punching that enabled him to win by a large disparity and reminded the competition that he was still king.

While the most memorable moment of the Mayweather Jr and Victor Ortiz fight was the illegal headbutt by the latter, this fight was instrumental in proving that age is just a number for the pound-for-pound king. During this established point in his career, Mayweather Jr, 34, was a master at cultivating fans to tune into his fights in hope of his demise. Regardless of his age, Mayweather Jr looked technically sound and was asserting his will routinely. He looked a step or two ahead of his younger counterpart. By frustrating the young Mexican boxer purely out of execution of a game plan, Ortiz lashed out with a cheap shot. The younger Ortiz was mighty and strong, but let his emotions get the better of him. In the midst of the chaos, Mayweather Jr capitalised on the moment by knocking out an apologetic and unprotected Ortiz to remain champion.

At the time, Shane Mosley was the number three ranked pound-for-pound fighter on the planet and had a tough test in front of him against Mayweather Jr. Mosley had several big-time wins on his record, lost to a few elite fighters as well, but really looked sharp early on versus Mayweather Jr. In an extremely rare circumstance, Mayweather Jr’s button was severely pinged by Mosley in the second round to buckle the undefeated champion and put him on stilts. However, what makes Floyd so special is his ability to stay composed under duress. Mayweather Jr stayed on the course to win the rest of the fight by a large margin.

After another round of failed negotiations with the great Manny Pacquiao, Team Money Mayweather turned their attention to a different opponent, a former world champion  Cotto faced and beat some of the sport’s most elite boxers, and he would’ve loved to have nothing more than to tally a “1” in Mayweather Jr’s career loss column. Cotto came out with a pressuring offensive style to counter the Michigan native’s elusiveness. Mayweather Jr responded by mixing up light and heavy shots that landed around the guard of Cotto to ultimately turn the tables of the fight in the later rounds. Though the fight went all 12 rounds, Mayweather Jr nearly finished Cotto, but the tough Rhode Island native respectably hung on. It was another dominant performance for “Money” Mayweather Jr.

One of the biggest wins of Mayweather Jr’s career came when he took on Zab Judah for the IBF and IBO welterweight championship belts. However, during the fight, Judah, like a handful of Mayweather Jr’s opponents, tried to bully the more talented boxer with unnecessary – and sometimes illegal – physicality. Floyd refused to be big brothered by Judah, and responded with even more swiftness and skill. When Judah could not outbox Mayweather Jr, he turned to foul play. In the 10th round with Mayweather Jr up on the scorecards, Judah landed a blatant low blow followed by a punch to the back of Floyd’s head. This resulted in Roger Mayweather rushing into the ring to confront Judah and to protect his fighter. A scrum broke out, but the tension would eventually subside, and Mayweather Jr would go on to win the fight.

The first fight between Mayweather Jr and Marcos Maidana was a great fight. Maidana forced Floyd out of his counter striking comfort zone and into a gritty fight. “Money” Mayweather Jr admitted that the Mexican fighter was a very worthy opponent as Floyd wasn’t relaxed as he normally is against the ropes. This nerve-wrecking contest led to an immediate rematch and another big payday for the “The Best Ever”. Mayweather Jr made noticeable adjustments from the get go of the rematch. With a tighter guard and not nearly as casual in his demeanour, Floyd started his offence sooner and was ready to silence any critics. Though this fight had much less tussling, it showed the mastermind that Mayweather is. His in-ring IQ and ability to be two or three steps ahead of his opponents is why he is considered one of the best of all time, and it showed on that night.

In the lead up to Mayweather Jr’s fight with Arturo Gatti, he was still known as “Pretty Boy Floyd”, but this was the first introduction to how Mayweather Jr’s trash talking could bring in more eyeballs and more dollars to his fights. Floyd didn’t cut his biggest paycheck ever for his fight with the brawling Gatti, but he quickly learned what sells. The fight was a dominant performance from the ascending Mayweather Jr. Gatti, who turns fights into phone booth slugfests, was no match for his swordsman counterpart. Mayweather Jr picked apart Gatti with various lead attacks that drew Gatti into an unwanted duel. Mayweather Jr beat down the former champion to earn the biggest win of his career at that point. A young Mayweather Jr would win his first and only super lightweight title with the victory.

When two great talkers come together in combat sports, it can make for a massive attraction. Yes, their skills are elite and can speak for themselves, but when fighters have that mouthy confidence, it adds another layer to the fight. This was the case for Mayweather Jr versus . Mayweather Jr came into the bout as the world’s number one pound-for-pound boxer and made sure to keep that ranking intact. Smartly, Mayweather Jr wasn’t baiting as he normally does. Instead of reeling Hatton into a counter striking chess match, he decided to throw lead power shots that would end up frustrating the Englishman to eventually open up the floodgates. Hatton’s impatience allowed Mayweather Jr to really start to dig into his shots as he looked to close the show. He did just that in the 10th round when Hatton charged forward and Mayweather Jr – like a matador – threw a beautifully timed counter left hook while exiting punching range. Hatton rammed into the corner of the ring and this was the beginning of the end for the Englishman.

After establishing himself as the A-side in promotion, the next step for Team Money Mayweather was to pick off a young lion with massive potential.  a powerful punching Mexican with loads of potential. A fight against Mayweather Jr would put Alvarez on the map even if he wasn’t the master chess player he has become. The fight had many stipulations that leaned heavily in favour of the champ. Canelo had to remain at a certain weight on a certain date to keep the fight a go. Obviously, because of the opportunity, Canelo accepted and made it to fight night. Mayweather Jr showed that there are levels to this game and pulled out all of his defensive skills to frustrate yet another young boxer. Floyd looked exceptional with his evasion footwork and shoulder roll to win a one-sided affair

It took many years of clamouring from the media and the boxing community to make Mayweather Jr versus Manny Pacquiao happen, but when it was finally set, the world tuned in to watch the clash of the best defensive boxer in history go toe-to-toe with a great offensive threat. The hype for this superfight was undeniable. The mainstream media handled this fight with the proper amount of hype and coverage. Pacquiao was a great challenge for Mayweather Jr. His pressure and power were thought to be the perfect combination to finally crack the Mayweather Jr code. However, the Michigan native was too slick that night for Pacquiao, as he had his guard reinforced to elude Manny’s genius offensive tactics. Floyd didn’t give a millimetre and Pacquiao couldn’t get any momentum going. Many have tried to disparage Mayweather Jr for not getting around to this fight earlier in the career of Pacquiao following the fight, but ironically, Mayweather Jr is older than the Filipino fighter by three years. Mayweather Jr may never receive his due from this shutdown performance.

When Oscar De La Hoya faced Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2007, it was a passing of the torch from one incredible fighter to another. The fight had a Shakespearian backdrop with Floyd Sr leaving the Mayweather team because of issues with Floyd Jr coaching De La Hoya for several years. Eventually, the Floyds reunited in time for this epic showdown between the longtime champion and the rising star. Confidently, Mayweather Jr gave away the first few rounds of the fight to digest data, which gave De La Hoya a false sense of security. Once Mayweather Jr downloaded the Mexican fighter’s strengths, he turned up the volume and gained the respect of the champion with slick combinations. With prime punching power and a point to prove his greatness, Mayweather Jr went from “Pretty Boy Floyd” to “Money Mayweather” as he won in dominant fashion and banked his biggest payday to date. The rest is history.

TROON, Scotland — Tigers often wait for the perfect moment to pounce on their prey, and that’s exactly what Tiger Woods did to Colin Montgomerie on Tuesday at Royal Troon.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the Open Championship in Scotland, Woods was ready when asked about Montgomerie’s recent comments that the 48-year-old is risking his legacy by continuing to play and should retire.

“Well, as a past champion, I’m exempt until I’m 60. Colin’s not. He’s not a past champion, so he’s not exempt. So he doesn’t get the opportunity to make that decision. I do,” Woods said.

In an interview last week with the Times of London, the 61-year-old Montgomerie had plenty to say about Woods from the sidelines.

“I hope people remember Tiger as Tiger was, the passion and the charismatic aura around him,” Montgomerie said. “There is none of that now. At Pinehurst, he did not seem to enjoy a single shot and you think, ‘What the hell is he doing?’ He’s coming to Troon and he won’t enjoy it there, either.”

In much of the golf world, the Glasgow native Montgomerie is remembered just as much for failing to win a single major championship as he is for his seven Order of Merit titles on the European Tour.

Woods has returned this week to Scotland and Royal Troon, the site of his first Open Championship start in 1997. The 15-time major champion, who in addition to being exempt until 60 at the Open Championship enjoys a lifetime exemption into the Masters and PGA Championship, wasn’t quite finished with Monty.

“When I get to his age, I get to still make that decision, where he doesn’t,” he said.

The bombshell night all was uncovered,  It was a huge fall from grace for the much-respected golfer, who had earned a $1billion (£706million) fortune, including £78million in endorsements, had just won the Masters in and that same year he was photographed meeting then-president Barack Obama at the White House.

Woods tried to shut the accusations down before the story went public and is said to have put Elin on the phone with Rachel. The two women reportedly spoke for half an hour, but Elin wasn’t convinced by her story. Woods left his phone unattended and his wife went through it and found the name of who she contacted.

The call went to voicemail and Elin left a very stern message. She said: “You know who this is, because you are f- -king my husband.” Woods wasn’t told Elin made the call and he too tried to get through to the woman. His voicemail said: “Hey, it’s, uh … it’s Tiger. Can you please take your name off your phone? My wife went through my phone and, uh, may be calling you. So if you can, please take your name off that. And, um … just have it as a number on the voicemail. OK? You got to do this for me. Huge. Quickly. All right, bye.”

The story broke the next day on Thanksgiving and Elin kept silent. Woods had apparently met Uchitel four months after his son was born. She had shown friends sexy messages they’d sent each other and told pals Woods was divorcing his wife, it’s claimed. Elin reportedly went through his phone again and found some of the messages from Woods, including one that said: “You are the only one I’ve ever loved.”

Tiger Woods lamented his lack of competitive reps, never got anything going, and never came close to making the cut at The Open Championship at Royal Troon.

Tiger Woods among notables to miss cut at The British Open Championship Royal Troon

Woods, who saw the toughest conditions as part of the less favorable early-late wave, will miss the cut at Royal Troon after shooting 14-over 156 (79-77). The performance marked his highest opening two rounds at a major since the 2015 U.S. Open.

“I just wish I was more physically sharp coming into the majors,” Woods said. “It tests you mentally, physically, emotionally and I just wasn’t as sharp as I needed to be.

“I was hoping I would find it somehow,” he continued after his third straight missed cut (PGA Championship, U.S. Open, Open Championship) in the wake of a solo 60th at The Masters Tournament. “I just never did, and consequently my results and scores were pretty high.”

Max Homa had a better time of it Friday. He knew he needed his nearly 30-footer to drop on 18 to get to 6-over par and with a chance to play the weekend, and when he drained the birdie he looked to the heavens and roared. So did the crowd that ringed the 18th green.

It was one of the day’s loudest cheers for a man who was more than a dozen shots off the lead.

“I don’t know, maybe I’m just proud of myself,” said Homa, who will make the cut on the number. “This is my favorite tournament in the world, so to have the chance to potentially play two more days, I don’t know, I had an out-of-body experience. I didn’t really expect to yell like I won a golf tournament. It just felt really good. I felt like I fought all day.

after the first two rounds.

The most notable casualty of the cut was Rory McIlroy, who was trying to rebound from a deflating opening-round 78 in the worst of the weather on Thursday. He got off to a terrible start Friday, though, including a triple-bogey 8 at the par-5 fourth hole.

“Obviously got off to the worst start possible today, being 6-over through six,” McIlroy said. “But then played the last 12 holes pretty well, bogey-free. If I need to remember something about this week, it’ll be the last few holes that I played.

Joining Woods and McIlroy outside the cut line were Henrik Stenson (77-73), Nick Taylor (75-75), Min Woo Lee (71-80), Francesco Molinari (73-78), Tommy Fleetwood (76-75), Ludvig Åberg (75-76), Bryson DeChambeau (76-75), Tony Finau (71-81), Viktor Hovland (75-77), Tom Kim (76-77), Cameron Smith (80-74), Sahith Theegala (77-79) and Wyndham Clark (78-80).

Many of these players competed early Thursday and late Friday, when some of the pre-tournament favorites seemed to struggle the most.

“It was tough,” said Fleetwood. “Yeah, look, conditions are tough, the golf course is tough. But it’s your job to figure it out and to put in a score, and I just couldn’t do that.”

With his week at Royal Troon coming to an end, this also marks the conclusion of Woods’ competitive calendar for 2024 (at least in official events). He was a combined 44-over par in the year’s four majors, finishing last among players who made the cut at the Masters and missing the cut at the other three. His scoring average in those four events was 75.6 strokes.

The only other event he played in 2024 was The Genesis Invitational, which he hosts at Los Angeles’ Riviera Country Club. He shot 72 in the opening round before withdrawing from the second round with the flu.

“Hopefully next year will be a little bit better than this year,” he said.

While his son Charlie begins play Monday in the U.S. Junior Amateur at Michigan’s Oakland Hills Country Club, Tiger won’t be seen playing publicly until the Hero World Challenge and the PNC Championship at the end of the year.

“I’m not going to play until (the Hero),” Woods said. “I’m just going to keep getting physically better and keep working on it.”

Clark’s struggles continued at Troon, where he shot 16-over 158 (78-80). The 2023 U.S. Open champion was 39-over par in the 2024 majors, missing the cut at the Masters (151, 7-over) and PGA Championship (146, 4-over) and finishing T56 in his U.S. Open defense (292, 12-over).

According to Schlabach, the 48-year-old practiced chipping and putting while also trying to chip out of deep pot bunkers around the greens. Schlabach said that Woods looked strong in the practice round after flying in from Florida overnight.

Tony Finau, Lucas Glover and Jason Day also played the course on Sunday, though Woods walked the course along with his caddie, Lance Bennett.

Woods has struggled in recent majors, missing the cut or withdrawing in five of his last six starts. He made the cut at the Masters in April but finished near the bottom of the leaderboards in 60th after carding a 16-over 304—his worst 72-hole score in a professional event.

In his latest appearance at the US Open in June, he missed the cut after carding a 3-over 73 in the second round. He was just two strokes away from advancing while playing on a special exemption from the United States Golf Association.

While he’s historically had success at the Open Championship, winning the event in 2000, 2005 and 2006, he’s missed the cut at his previous two appearances in 2022 and 2019. His best showing at the Open Championship in recent years came in 2018 when he finished sixth.

After competing in just four events this year, Woods said in June that the Open Championship will be his final PGA Tour event this season.

“I’ve only got one more tournament this season,” Woods said, per Schlabach. “Even if I win the British Open, I don’t think I’ll be in the [FedEx Cup] playoffs. Just one more event and then I’ll come back whenever I come back.”

The Open Championship begins on Thursday, when Woods will look to have a better showing than his pervious starts this season.
