Saudi Arabia are keen to make the boxing super-fight a reality and so is Crawford

Terence Crawford

is hungry for a mouth-watering fight with Mexico’s  as Saudi Arabia bids to create one of the biggest events in recent boxing history by pitting the triple-weight champion against the most profitable name in the sport.

Canelo, known for his durability and excellent counterpunching skills, is boxing’s big fish in the post-Floyd Mayweather era and he’s racked up an incredible 61 wins from 65 fights, with just two losses showing how formidable he is

“That’s how he is,” Brian McIntyre said of Crawford’s strive for greatness to BoxingScene. “He has to know. He wants to press to that next level. Always.”

The discussion comes after Saudi Arabia’s chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, Tuki Alalshikh vowed to make good offers to both candidates for the bout, which would be forecast to happen in early 2025 based on current schedules.

Crawford already boasts an exceptional record with 40 fights, 40 wins and 31 knockouts. It has seen him become a champion in the lightweight division as well as undisputed king in the light-welterweight and welterweight class.

He also boasts wins over Errol Spence Jr., Shawn Porter, Kell Brook and Amir Khan showing that the 36-year-old is not afraid of facing the best and hasn’t just padded his record with easy fights against non-threatening opponents.

Crawford caught off guard by Kendrick track

The long-standing beef between  and , initially marked by friendly rivalry, has evolved into a series of high-profile diss tracks.

In Lamar’s recent track “Euphoria,” released in April, the rapper made a surprising reference to Crawford, leaving the boxing community abuzz.

During a recent appearance on the ‘Impaulsive’ podcast with and Mike Majlak, Crawford shared his reaction to hearing his name in Lamar’s track.

Recalling the moment, Crawford said, “I woke up to like 20-30 messages, like, ‘Did you hear that?’ I am like, ‘What [are] you talking about?’ I am listening [to the song]… I am like that’s cool.”

In the song, Lamar raps, “Yeah, f**k all that pushin’ P, let me see you push a T / You better off spinnin’ again on him, you think about pushin’ me? / He’s Terrence Thornton, I’m Terence Crawford, yeah, I’m whoopin’ feet.”

Despite the sharp words, Crawford seemed to take it all in stride, appreciating the track’s appeal.

“I don’t think Drake can take it personally because in the hip-hop industry it’s a catchy song. I am sure we all got hyped for the song-I have,” he remarked.

The unexpected mention has only helped Crawford’s popularity, showcasing the cultural crossover between sports and music.

However, as engaging as the hip-hop drama is, Crawford’s primary focus remains on his boxing career.

Crawford, the heavy favorite against Israil Madrimov

WHY Terence Crawford shrugs off mention in Kendrick Lamar's diss track ahead of title fight

This Saturday, Crawford aims to cement his legacy by becoming a four-weight world champion.

He faces the formidable WBA light middleweight champion Israil Madrimov, who claimed the title in March with a stunning fifth-round knockout against Magomed Kurbanov.

As Crawford prepares for the bout, the boxing world is rife with speculation about his future.

Fans and experts alike are eager to see who the pound-for-pound star will face next, considering the numerous contenders across different weight classes.

is a a talked about possibility, but the Mexican fighter seems to not be interested in a fight.

While Crawford is favored to win, Madrimov’s prowess as a boxer-puncher poses a significant threat.

Many fans and media might overlook Madrimov, but those familiar with his skill set know that he is not to be underestimated.

Crawford’s status as a favorite is well-earned, but in the unpredictable world of boxing, anything can happen.

Crawford will challenge for the super-welterweight title but said Garcia’s friends aren’t good for him

Terence Crawford  called for Ryan Garcia to review the friends he has around him as the controversial boxing continues to “self-destruct” in 2024 whilst sitting on the sidelines for a doping ban.

The Mexican-American opened the year with a series of bizarre conspiracy theories and appeared to pretend to be murdered by satanists, although he claims he was hacked on social media

Then he entered the ring against Devin Haney in one of the most controversial boxing matches of recent time as he showed up too heavy and later found to have a performance-enhancing substance in his system through multiple blood tests, leaving him banned for a year.

As if that wasn’t enough, a racist attack against black people and Muslims on a live stream saw him expelled by the WBC’s President as he blamed mental health struggles throughout the years.

So, whilst Crawford didn’t feel it was his responsibility to offer advice directly to Garcia, he did subtly implore the 25-year-old to think about the people he’s surrounded by and whether they are right to protect him.

“Nah, not really. I don’t have a relationship with him like that,” Crawford told the IMPAULSIVE podcast. “So, that’s not my place. That’s the guys that surround him.

“For you to call yourself a friend, a brother, a cousin, to watch a man like that self-destruct, what type of friend are you?

“Anything that I do that’s going to challenge me to anything negative or lead me down the wrong path, there’s not one person in my camp right now that wouldn’t grab me and be like, ‘Hey, you ain’t doing that.'”

TNT Sports expert Richie Woodhall has labelled Terence Crawford as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing history.
Crawford, who is 40-0 in his illustrious career, takes on Israil Madrimov at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California this weekend, with the bout being shown live on TNT Sports Box Office and
‘Bud’ is now going for the WBA super welterweight championship, having already completely cleaned up in two weight classes to become undisputed. He also has world honours in a third category.
Crawford returns to the ring over a year since his last fight, where he dominated rival Errol Spence Jr. at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, winning via TKO in the ninth round.
Woodhall, the TNT Sports commentator and former WBC super middleweight champion, believes that Crawford’s name belongs in the same conversation as boxing’s greats.
Alongside him, Woodhall places another current superstar in Oleksandr Usyk, who has also gone undisputed at both heavyweight and cruiserweight.
  • [Crawford is] probably the most natural ambidextrous fighter I’ve ever seen. You can’t tell whether he’s orthodox or southpaw,” Woodhall said.
“He’s one of the best all-rounders I’ve ever seen in a boxing ring. The only thing I would say is he hasn’t quite had the opposition like a Marvin Hagler or a Sugar Ray Leonard. All a man can do is beat what’s in front of him and he’s done that in two divisions.
“In history, I think he’s right up there with the very best. He’s undisputed. It’s an incredible situation now. Two undisputed champions in two weight divisions – it just doesn’t get any better than that.
“You have two boxers [Crawford and Usyk] who are up there, best pound-for-pound in the history of the sport.”
TNT Sports expert Steve Bunce believes that Crawford can embody more than one fighter every time he steps into the ring, such is the variety of his skillset.
“He’s not just one fighter, he’s multiple fighters. We’ve seen him in different fights where he’s seemed like a different boxer. He’s flawless; he really is. He makes really good fighters look really average.
“Is Terence Crawford the best pound-for-pound fighter right now? There’s a case to say he is. The only man in my opinion that can compete with him might be Oleksandr Usyk.
“Usyk had a great victory last time out. He beat the unbeaten [Tyson Fury], considered the greatest heavyweight in the world. The same with Crawford, last time out, he beat the great welterweight Errol Spence. They’ve beaten them handily.”
Meanwhile, Frank Warren, head of Queensberry Promotions, said that, in his mind, Crawford was “probably the No. 1 or No. 2 best fighter in the world.
“Terence Crawford is an exceptional fighter,” Warren said. “It’s a combination of ability, versatility, and the most important thing, adaptability.
“He can finish you with either hand, he can finish you going backwards, and he can finish you going forwards.”
WHY Terence Crawford and Oleksandr Usyk 'up there with best in history' of boxing - TNT Sports pundits hail P4P icon Bud
Crawford’s best performance of his long career came against Spence last July, in which ‘Bud’ knocked down his opponent three times – once in round two, and twice in round seven before the bout was stopped in the ninth.
“Spence was 28-0 at the time,” Bunce explained. “He was the man in that welterweight division, [but] here was a fighter [Crawford] in there that night, who I think would have been able to compete with any welterweight in history.
“Poor Errol Spence, not only was he beaten, but he was ruined in there. That breaks your mind. It breaks your spirit, not just physical hurt, but hurt inside.”
Woodhall, meanwhile, said of the performance: “Each round, he just turned the screw a bit more and it was an absolute masterclass. He made it look easy and it was quite incredible.”
Bunce, Woodhall, and Warren are all backing Crawford to extend his unbeaten record on Saturday to beat Madrimov, and hand the Uzbek the first loss of his professional career.
“I fancy Terence but I’m telling you, it’s going to be an interesting, exciting fight. I expect something a little bit special on the night,” Warren said, while Bunce believes that the American has all the experience that his opponent does not.
“I don’t think Israil Madrimov is a fight too far for Crawford,” Bunce said. “He’s got the fight quite early; he’s not that seasoned. He’s a novice as a pro. That’s what Crawford isn’t.”
Woodhall believes that the fight might have come a bit soon for Madrimov, but were Crawford to win, a potential bout against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez could be too difficult a test, even for the seemingly-invincible American.
“It’ll probably be a step too early for Israil,” Woodhall concluded. “I think Crawford will be able to handle him.
“He’s looking to become undisputed in three weight divisions and this is that next step. The real prize at the end of it all may be a Canelo fight. I think that would be a step too far.”
Warren believes that, should Crawford beat Madrimov, then an encounter with Canelo would be what all boxing fans want to see next.
“Crawford and Canelo is a fight that everyone wants to see,” the promoter added. “If anybody can make it happen, it’s His Excellency in the Riyadh Season.”
