Tiger Wood has missed another cut at a major tournament.

Woods is all but guaranteed to be out at the ongoing  at Royal Troon after posting a +14 over the first two days of the event, where the projected cut line sits at +5.

His dismal Friday included a double bogey on the second hole as well as bogeys on the fifth, ninth, 12th, 14th and 17th. He finished Friday with a 77 (+6) after his 78 (+8) on Thursday. Despite his struggles, though, Woods still had a packed gallery and received large ovations throughout the first two rounds.

The 48-year-old now intends to take a months-long break from golf, telling reporters on Friday at Royal Troon that he will return at the Hero World Challenge in December. Asked if he would play next year’s Open at Royal Portrush, Woods answered: ‘Definitely.’

‘I’ve always loved playing major championships. I just wish I was more physically sharp coming into the majors,’ Woods said after his round. ‘Obviously it tests you mentally, physically, emotionally, and I just wasn’t as sharp as I needed to be.’

Despite his struggles, Woods remained optimistic about his game and his health.

‘I’d like to have played more, but I just wanted to make sure that I was able to play the major championships this year,’ Woods said. ‘I got a lot of time off to get better, to be better physically, which has been the case all year.

‘I’ve gotten better, even though my results really haven’t shown it, but physically I’ve gotten better, which is great. I just need to keep progressing like that and then eventually start playing more competitively and start getting into kind of the competitive flow again.’

So far this year Woods has missed the cut at the  at the Valhalla Golf Club in  and the US Open at ‘s Pinehurst No. 2. Woods, who continues to battle injuries, was similarly awful at finishing +16 which included a ghastly 82 in his third round.

His early exit at Royal Troon follows a contentious exchange with retired player and announcer Colin Montgomerie, who questioned the golf legend’s presence at the tournament.

Montgomerie said in an interview in The Times last Saturday that Woods’s best days are behind him. From there, Montgomerie shared his memory of seeing Woods struggling at Pinehurst last month and wondering: ‘What the hell is he doing?

Woods was defiant in response (‘As a past champion, I’m exempt until I’m 60’), but ultimately failed to prove he belonged at the 2024 Open Championship, starting with a brutal first round on Thursday.

Woods fired his opening drive 201 yards off the first tee, finding the first cut of rough on the right side of the fairway.

He came close to an opening birdie, rolling his attempt to within two feet for a tap-in par before eventually entering the red at the third.

But the struggles, which were once a shock but now a customary sight, began at the fourth.

Royal Troon immediately snatched the shot back from Tiger’s claws at the fourth where he failed to seize on the par-five opportunity before he sank into the black with a double-bogey five on the par-three fifth.

His mere two birdies were no match for the total of six bogeys, including two consecutive on 17 and 18 to wrap up his round, and two doubles, featuring a trip to the train tracks at 11, as an opening 79 plundered his hopes.

And he wasn’t the only former champion to struggle in the first round: Cameron Smith (+9), Rory McIlroy (+7), and Louis Oosthuizen (+7) were all overwhelmed at Royal Troon on Thursday.

Woods’ first round was further tarnished by a comment from Sky Sports’ Mark Roe.

‘You look at the eyes, you gotta think there’s a lot of painkillers being taken to cope with the pain,’ Roe said while announcing The Open’s featured groups on Thursday.

It’s unclear if Roe was referencing Woods’ battle with pain medication, which resulted in his 2017 DUI charge. A subsequent toxicology report found painkillers, sleep medication and an ingredient active in marijuana in his system at the time of his arrest.

Woods ultimately avoided a DUI conviction by agreeing to enter a diversion program.

Naturally, Roe’s comment was not well received.

‘An absolute crazy thing to say on air.,’ read a comment from one golf-centric X account.

‘I’m not a big fan of Tiger, but even if it’s true, there are just things that need not be said,’ another commenter added.

One fan went so far as to accuse Roe of targeting Woods over his contentious relationship with the PGA’s Saudi-backed rival.

‘Probably a closet LIV supporter,’ the fan wrote.

Of course, Roe’s primary duties are with Sky Network, which broadcasts the DP World Tour and the PGA, so it’s unlikely that the English announcer is somehow targeting Woods for the Saudis.

Since nearly losing his right leg in a 2021 car crash, Woods has played sparingly, focusing on the majors while resting his 48-year-old body during less prestigious tournaments.

Knee surgeries, a fused ankle, and a microdiscectomy are just some of the medical procedures that have kept Woods upright as he enters his 50s.

Some days, I just feel really good,’ he said in April. ‘Other days, not so much.’

Woods’ injury history began with a pair of procedures aimed at removing a benign tumor, scar tissue, a cyst and fluid from his knee, but quickly escalated as the long-time Nike pitchman began facing structural issues with his bones and joints.

Remarkably, Woods bounced back from his 2017 arrest and briefly appeared poised to recapture his throne atop the PGA Tour.

He won the Tour Championship in 2018 and the Masters the following season, all while golf fans marveled at his new form.

But the good times couldn’t last.

Tiger Woods misses the cut AGAIN as golf legend crashes out of The Open in another major nightmare at Royal Troon

He underwent a fifth microdiscectomy in 2021, and one month later was involved in a single-vehicle accident near a tournament in Los Angeles. Woods, the driver and only person hurt in the wreck, rolled his SUV before suffering major leg injuries.

Doctors even weighed amputation before finding a way to keep Woods intact.

‘I’m very lucky, very lucky,’ Woods told a crowd in February of 2022. ‘As a lot of you guys know, I didn’t know if I was going to have the right leg or not. So, to be able to have my right leg still here, it’s huge. I still have a lot of issues with it, but it’s mine and I’m very thankful for that.’

He made his return at the 2022 Masters, where he was noticeably limping en route to a 47th-place finish.

Since then, Woods has undergone a subtalar fusion procedure to ‘address his post-traumatic arthritis’ in his fractured ankle.

On the back of a difficult week, the 15-time major champion confirmed in the aftermath that he would not be teeing it up on the PGA Tour until the Hero World Challenge in December. “I’m not going to play until then [the Hero World Challenge],” Woods said.

“I’m going to just keep getting physically better and keep working on it.” The three-time Open champion also outlined his plans to once again play in the PNC Championship, where he will partner his son Charlie.

This was not an Open goodbye though, with Woods admitting afterwards that he has every intention of competing at Royal Portrush next year. Asked if he will be playing at the Northern Irish setup in 2025, he replied: “Next year’s Open? Yeah, definitely,” with a wide smile.

Having kicked off his championship with an eight-over 79 on Thursday, Woods left himself with plenty of work to do in round two, but once again struggled to find his best golf. A seven-over 78 followed on day two, with the testing Troon conditions proving all too much for the 82-time PGA Tour winner.

Assessing his Friday, Woods said: “Well it wasn’t very good. I made a double there at 2 right out of the hopper when I needed to go the other way. Just was fighting it pretty much all day. I never really hit it close enough to make birdies and consequently made a lot of bogeys.”

Legendary golfer Tiger Woods is making an appearance this week in metro Detroit as his son, Charlie, competes at the U.S. Junior Amateur in Oakland Hills. The historic golf club in Bloomfield Township is hosting 264 of the best junior golfers in the world this week. The first two rounds are Monday and Tuesday, and then the top 64 players will make the cut and compete in match play through the weekend.

Woods’ career seems to be winding down as he missed the cut in three of the four majors this year, only showing form at the Masters where he came in 60th. These days, he’s more often spotted supporting his son Charlie from the sidelines, adhering to tournament rules that prevent him from coaching.

Despite this, Tiger’s passion is clear for all to view, as he was seen whispering words of encouragement to 15-year-old Charlie during the tournament. Charlie aims to follow in his father’s footsteps, and the sporting legend can’t hide his delight at his son’s development.

“His speed has gone dramatically up this year,” Tiger remarked at the end of 2023. “He’s hitting it past me now. I enjoy caddying for him and being there with him, just to talk through shots with him and have him understand what I would see or… the thought process I would have going through. He would bounce things off of me, and (I would) give him my take on certain things.”

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones claims to know what it’s like not to get everything on his wish list. “Believe it or not, in my life, I’ve had a lot of things that I wanted but couldn’t afford it,” Jones said in his annual State of the Cowboys press conference, which was delayed due to a federal court appearance involving a paternity claim and countersuit involving Alexandra Davis. Most of the attention in a press conference that trickled into the start of practice signaled by sounding air horns in the background was focused on financial issues and cap decisions with direct implications for the Cowboys’ critical personnel. Dallas has 30 players on expiring contracts entering the 2024 season, with Pro Bowl quarterback Dak Prescott the most prominent. Jones understands that it sets up a year with “a lot on the line.” “There’s nothing bright-lined about the kinds of things noted in this offseason that aren’t happening. It’s got a lot more ambiguity to it,” Jones said Thursday. Jones said that “70 percent of your whole payroll” will go to Prescott, holdout wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and outside linebacker Micah Parsons eventually, and reminded the Cowboys are still paying “the credit card bill” for restructuring bygone contracts. Prescott, who turns 31 on Monday, is in the final year of his contract and isn’t eligible to be given the franchise tag. Lamb, 25, was a camp no-show with $17.99 million due in salary for 2024, the final year of his contract. Parsons, 25, has one year left on his four-year, $17.1 million rookie deal, and the Cowboys exercised his $21.3 million option for 2025, making him eligible for an extension. “That’s a challenge. How do you keep a supporting cast around (Dak) and make all of that work out? It’s real,” Jones said. Head coach Mike McCarthy sits at the middle of the mounting challenges but said he feels none of the pressure or perspiration of the outside media and fans focused on contracts and players who aren’t in attendance at camp in Oxnard, Calif. He’s also working on an expiring contract but didn’t want to discuss it Thursday. “I view this question the same my whole tenure as a head coach. That’s part of the business of the National Football League,” McCarthy said. “My energy, my focus, the players and the coaching staff is not even close to what we’ve been talking about the last 30 minutes. We’re excited by the opportunity in front of us. … The contract conversations, we talked about that back in the spring, and that’s where that lies with me. That’s not the way we’re wired. We can’t be wired that way. We’re on an 11-hour workday.” Jones said he’s still more than comfortable being responsible “for any and everything that goes on” under the Cowboys’ roof. He said he’s only comfortable operating that way because “I can’t delegate that.” Jones said he’s not “sitting up there throwing darts” when asked about why the GM job wasn’t on the line but the coach and players are fighting for their next season, said other teams change coaches and general managers far more frequently while the Cowboys have had two. Stephen Jones remains a loud voice in the front office and indicated the Cowboys expect to be able to sign all of their key players with roster situations in flux. “I just think it’s very unique that you have a top quarterback on your team as well as two players on either side of the ball that feel like, and rightfully so, they’re the best non-quarterback players in the league. It stresses the cap,” Stephen Jones said. “We think we can get it done. We think we can get Dak done. But there are tough decisions that you have to make if you want to keep your up-and-coming players. It’s a good problem to have.” Jerry Jones said in Lamb’s case he was “waiting for more leaves to fall,” before addressing his contract. Jones said there are “hundreds of times” in his life experiences when hindsight would indicate he maybe should have handed the ball off and not pitch it, equating his role as GM to being an option quarterback. He also referenced the “Ben Franklin Method” in listing “We’re buying time. We’re option quarterbacking, going out toward the sideline and we haven’t pitched the ball,” Jerry Jones said. “That’s what we’re doing. And we’re waiting for something to happen in the morning.” –Field Level Media

Left tackle Trent Williams was placed on the did not report list on Thursday as the San Francisco 49ers began training camp without their premier offensive lineman. Under terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the 49ers can fine Williams $50,000 per absence during camp. Williams, an 11-time Pro Bowl selection, is owed $74.76 million over the next three seasons — but none of the compensation is guaranteed. Williams cleared the midway point of six-year, $138.06 million deal and is entering the fourth year of the agreement. “It’s something I knew could be a possibility, and I was hoping that he would be here,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said of Williams. “But I knew it could be a possibility, and I feel pretty confident that it will all work out in the long run and he’ll be here, and we’ll get on the same page with everything. It’s just one day of practice, and I think Trent will be all right missing a few practices.” Williams was a first-team All-Pro in each of the past three seasons. The 36-year-old is entering his fifth season with San Francisco, which gave up third- and fifth-round picks to acquire him from Washington. A seven-time Pro Bowl selection in nine campaigns with Washington, Williams sat out the entire 2019 season as part of a dispute with Washington over the handling of his health and injury issues, including a rare form of cancer, and his contract. Williams has a cap figure of $31.6 million for 2024. He is stated to earn $20.05 million this season as well as $750,000 more in game-day roster bonuses. He will make $22.5 million next season and $32.21 million in 2026. Williams’ average annual salary of $23.01 million is fourth highest among NFL left tackles. He moved down a spot Tuesday when Christian Darrisaw of the Minnesota Vikings signed a four-year, $113 million extension that will average a tackle-record $28.25 million a season. Shanahan didn’t want to have a deep discussion about the contract situation. “A lot of things play into it but I’m not going to get into the personal parts of the contract,” Shanahan said. –Field Level Media

Tiger Woods lamented his lack of competitive reps, never got anything going, and never came close to making the cut at The Open Championship at Royal Troon.

Tiger Woods among notables to miss cut at The British Open Championship Royal Troon

Woods, who saw the toughest conditions as part of the less favorable early-late wave, will miss the cut at Royal Troon after shooting 14-over 156 (79-77). The performance marked his highest opening two rounds at a major since the 2015 U.S. Open.

“I just wish I was more physically sharp coming into the majors,” Woods said. “It tests you mentally, physically, emotionally and I just wasn’t as sharp as I needed to be.

“I was hoping I would find it somehow,” he continued after his third straight missed cut (PGA Championship, U.S. Open, Open Championship) in the wake of a solo 60th at The Masters Tournament. “I just never did, and consequently my results and scores were pretty high.”

Max Homa had a better time of it Friday. He knew he needed his nearly 30-footer to drop on 18 to get to 6-over par and with a chance to play the weekend, and when he drained the birdie he looked to the heavens and roared. So did the crowd that ringed the 18th green.

Max Homa drained a 28-foot birdie putt at the 18th hole on Friday to play the weekend. (Keyur Khamar/PGA TOUR)

It was one of the day’s loudest cheers for a man who was more than a dozen shots off the lead.

“I don’t know, maybe I’m just proud of myself,” said Homa, who will make the cut on the number. “This is my favorite tournament in the world, so to have the chance to potentially play two more days, I don’t know, I had an out-of-body experience. I didn’t really expect to yell like I won a golf tournament. It just felt really good. I felt like I fought all day.

after the first two rounds.

The most notable casualty of the cut was Rory McIlroy, who was trying to rebound from a deflating opening-round 78 in the worst of the weather on Thursday. He got off to a terrible start Friday, though, including a triple-bogey 8 at the par-5 fourth hole.

“Obviously got off to the worst start possible today, being 6-over through six,” McIlroy said. “But then played the last 12 holes pretty well, bogey-free. If I need to remember something about this week, it’ll be the last few holes that I played.

Rory McIlroy holes bunker shot for birdie at The Open

Joining Woods and McIlroy outside the cut line were Henrik Stenson (77-73), Nick Taylor (75-75), Min Woo Lee (71-80), Francesco Molinari (73-78), Tommy Fleetwood (76-75), Ludvig Åberg (75-76), Bryson DeChambeau (76-75), Tony Finau (71-81), Viktor Hovland (75-77), Tom Kim (76-77), Cameron Smith (80-74), Sahith Theegala (77-79) and Wyndham Clark (78-80).

Many of these players competed early Thursday and late Friday, when some of the pre-tournament favorites seemed to struggle the most.

“It was tough,” said Fleetwood. “Yeah, look, conditions are tough, the golf course is tough. But it’s your job to figure it out and to put in a score, and I just couldn’t do that.”

With his week at Royal Troon coming to an end, this also marks the conclusion of Woods’ competitive calendar for 2024 (at least in official events). He was a combined 44-over par in the year’s four majors, finishing last among players who made the cut at the Masters and missing the cut at the other three. His scoring average in those four events was 75.6 strokes.

The only other event he played in 2024 was The Genesis Invitational, which he hosts at Los Angeles’ Riviera Country Club. He shot 72 in the opening round before withdrawing from the second round with the flu.

“Hopefully next year will be a little bit better than this year,” he said.

While his son Charlie begins play Monday in the U.S. Junior Amateur at Michigan’s Oakland Hills Country Club, Tiger won’t be seen playing publicly until the Hero World Challenge and the PNC Championship at the end of the year.

“I’m not going to play until (the Hero),” Woods said. “I’m just going to keep getting physically better and keep working on it.”

Clark’s struggles continued at Troon, where he shot 16-over 158 (78-80). The 2023 U.S. Open champion was 39-over par in the 2024 majors, missing the cut at the Masters (151, 7-over) and PGA Championship (146, 4-over) and finishing T56 in his U.S. Open defense (292, 12-over).

Tiger Woods began preparations for the Open Championship next week, playing an 18-hole practice round at Royal Troon Golf Club on Sunday, per ESPN’s

Tiger Woods Plays A NEW 18-Hole Practice Round in Preparation for 2024 British Open

According to Schlabach, the 48-year-old practiced chipping and putting while also trying to chip out of deep pot bunkers around the greens. Schlabach said that Woods looked strong in the practice round after flying in from Florida overnight.

Tony Finau, Lucas Glover and Jason Day also played the course on Sunday, though Woods walked the course along with his caddie, Lance Bennett.

Woods has struggled in recent majors, missing the cut or withdrawing in five of his last six starts. He made the cut at the Masters in April but finished near the bottom of the leaderboards in 60th after carding a 16-over 304—his worst 72-hole score in a professional event.

In his latest appearance at the US Open in June, he missed the cut after carding a 3-over 73 in the second round. He was just two strokes away from advancing while playing on a special exemption from the United States Golf Association.

While he’s historically had success at the Open Championship, winning the event in 2000, 2005 and 2006, he’s missed the cut at his previous two appearances in 2022 and 2019. His best showing at the Open Championship in recent years came in 2018 when he finished sixth.

After competing in just four events this year, Woods said in June that the Open Championship will be his final PGA Tour event this season.

“I’ve only got one more tournament this season,” Woods said, per Schlabach. “Even if I win the British Open, I don’t think I’ll be in the [FedEx Cup] playoffs. Just one more event and then I’ll come back whenever I come back.”

The Open Championship begins on Thursday, when Woods will look to have a better showing than his pervious starts this season.

  • Woods says Herman violated their NDA, in which she agreed to arbitrate disputes out of court.
  • Tiger Woods’ lawyers shared a copy of the non-disclosure agreement he had his then-girlfriend sign soon after they started dating in 2017, as the golfer tries to force her to arbitrate a disagreement out of court.

While the copy of the  that was provided in Martin County, Florida, circuit court on Monday was heavily redacted, it does show that  agreed to arbitrate all disputes with Woods “as consideration for the opportunity to continue to” spend time with him and “be privy to certain private and confidential aspects” of his personal life.

Lawyers for Herman and Woods did not immediately return Insider’s request for comment on Tuesday.

Herman and Woods’ current issues date back to October 2022, when Woods broke up with Herman and kicked her out of his Jupiter, Florida, home. Herman responded by the trust that owns Woods’ home, claiming that Woods violated an oral agreement that allowed her to live in the home rent-free for a period of years.

Woods’ lawyers have argued that Herman sued the trust to get around a provision in the NDA, in which she agreed to arbitrate all disputes with the golfer out of court. Herman has since filed a second lawsuit trying to get out of the NDA by using the federal “Speak Out Act” law that nullifies such agreements in cases where sexual harassment or sexual assault are being claimed. However, Herman made no specific allegations of sexual harassment or assault in her NDA complaint against Woods.

Tiger Woods' ex Erica Herman signed an NDA in exchange for the 'opportunity' to spend time with the golfer: court docs

Woods’ lawyers filed a copy of the NDA in a motion to compel arbitration in the second lawsuit on Monday. A similar filing, arguing that the Speak Out Act doesn’t apply to the NDA, was made in the first lawsuit on Monday as well. In both filings, Woods’ attorneys described Herman as a “jilted ex-girlfriend.

“Ms. Herman is not a victim of sexual assault or abuse sought to be protected by Congress when enacting the statute,” Woods’ lawyers wrote. “Rather, Ms. Herman is a jilted ex-girlfriend who wants to publicly litigate specious claims in court, rather than honor her commitment to arbitrate disputes in a confidential arbitration proceeding.”

In Herman’s original complaint against the trust, she alleged that she was tricked into moving out of Woods’ house. Herman said she was told to pack her bags for a short vacation, but when she left the home, she was notified that she had been locked out of the residence where she had lived with Woods for the previous six years.

Herman said in court papers that the defendants “attempted to justify their illegal conduct by paying for a hotel room and certain expenses for a short period of time.”

Woods’ attorneys said in another court filing that he put her up in a luxury resort after their break-up and “provided funds she could apply toward a new residence.”

Herman alleged in the original suit that by kicking her out of the home, the trust violated an oral agreement that allowed her to live rent-free at the home, in exchange for her performing “valuable services.” While Herman — who also worked at Woods’ restaurant — doesn’t detail what those valuable services entailed, she said she held up her end of the bargain, and had five years left on the agreement.

“The duties that were performed by, and expected of, Plaintiff were extensive and of an extraordinary nature in light of the overall circumstances and environment in which she lived,” the lawsuit states.

Woods’ lawyers have denied that Herman had any tenancy agreement to live at the home, and that the golfer and his two children are the only people who have any right to live there.

Charlie Woods’ Golf Run On His High School Golf Team

Tiger Woods And IS Ex-Wife Elin Nordegren Spotted Together On Hand To Watch Son Charlie Woods Receive His State Championship Ring

Last year in November, the Benjamin boys squad triumphed at the Florida State High School Golf Championship for the Class 1A title held at Mission Inn Resort and Club after securing an astounding score of 602, one point more than First Academy. Apart from Charlie, the other teammates in the squad are Tyler Bruneau, Brooks Colton, Jake Valentine, and Pavel Tsar.

Junior Woods scored 78 and 76 over the two rounds and tied for 26th place in the individual rankings. But the star performer of the event was Jake, who scored 148 and finished at T8. The Buccaneers were coached by Toby Harbeck and although the title is Charlie’s first state title, this is the school’s fourth title in golf history and the first one after 15 years.

Charlie’s scoring average was 74.3 in 2023 and was behind the team leader’s figure. But he had been a pivotal part of helping the team clinch this triumph. Moreover, Charlie participated in 12 of the 16 team events last season so the team was full of praise for the young golfer.

Also in the West Coast High School tournament held at Cypress Woods Golf and Country Club, Charlie came out victorious in the entire tournament as an individual and shot 65 in round one. Thus, the young golf prodigy is giving his best efforts to follow in the footsteps of his father. Therefore, one can expect several other brilliant accolades coming his way.

Wood’s is facing a challenging time at the 2024 Open Championship. His performance could hinder his chances at making the cut line.

Woods began the tournament with high hopes, but his first round at Royal Troon proved to be difficult. He finished the first round with a score of 8-over 79, placing him tied for 138th. This was a significant setback, as he found himself 14 shots behind the leader, Daniel Brown.

The second round did not bring much relief for Woods. He carded a 77, which further pushed him down the leaderboard. His combined score of 156 over two rounds placed him 149th out of the 154-player field. Unfortunately, this performance means that Woods is far from the cut line and will miss the weekend action.

Factors contributing to Tiger Woods poor performance

How is Tiger Woods doing at the Open Championship today? Will he make the cut-line?

It has been twenty years since Woods last played a professional round at Royal Troon.   Woods has faced numerous injuries and surgeries over the years. His physical condition might have played a role in his performance, especially on a demanding course like Royal Troon.

The competition at the Open Championship is fierce, with many top golfers vying for the title. Woods’ performance, while disappointing, is a showing to the high level of play required to succeed in such a prestigious tournament.

While Tiger Woods will not be competing in the weekend rounds of the 2024 Open Championship as he misses the cut, his legacy in golf remains untarnished.
